You don't need to mimic a Trados package and then a return package. First import your Trados TM into an existing or a new blank memoQ TM (you can do it with right-click in the Translation memories view with a TM selected, then select 'Import...' in memoQ). Then you import your sdlxliff file from the Trados target folder into memoQ as you normally do with other translatable files.
Once you are done with your translation, replace the existing sdlxliff file in the Trados project target folder with the new sdlxliff file as translated in memoQ. Keep in mind that there are two identical sdlxliff files in the Trados project folder. You should replace the target one.

Finally, your client does not need the entire project folder. They gave it to you because they expected you to use Trados. In return, they only need your translated sdlxliff file.
