After my rant some months ago I have been working with memoQ today after quite some time - and today it makes it completely impossible to finish my work. The external TM does not accept any entries, and the popups for this error keep appearing even after closing the file. I can't synchronize. Even exporting to a file does not work, these options are greyed out.
I don't know how to deliver my file.
Of course I have contacted my client and I will now try to contact memoQ support, but maybe someone has an idea.
I disabled the firewall to see if that is the problem, as I work in my university network today, but there is no difference.

The only times I ever had any issues with MemoQ were when I worked on server projects. What's the exact error message? Can you search that TM, or you can't access it at all?

Sometimes it helps if you save the bilingual file (just to be safe), delete the local project and then check out the online project again.

I run QA and checked all tags to no avail and the file sits in MemoQ up to now. I managed to export it as a bilingual file in RTF and thereafter converted it to monolingual txtx file.

Post title: Error message

I am getting the error message that informs me that the segment cannot be saved in the server TM. (Can't give you the exact English text here, as I have my software running in German). But this error message appears "erratically", minutes after I confirmed a segment, sometimes opening several of these messages in a row. The program informs me that it cannot connect with the external server.
I suspect there might be a problem with the server of the client - they are not responding to me emails, either. But even in this case I should be able to work on a project offline, with out error messages blocking the proper functioning of the software. It should not cause everything to work so very, very slow.

or with client and Kilgray server connection. Working on client server sometimes is very tricky.
The problem with "But even in this case I should be able to work on a project offline, with out error messages blocking the proper functioning of the software" may be that you try to confirm the translated segments and MemoQ each time answers that it cannot perform the required action.

I'm afraid not... What you described does indeed sound as it's caused by issues with the client's server. In my experience, if I'm working on an online project (even with manual synchronization) and the server/TM goes offline, I'm still able to input the text, but I won't obviously be able to use the TM/TB, nor to confirm segments (so it would be a "blind" translation, which is bad in itself).

On the other hand, if I tried to open the local file while the server is offline, I wouldn't be able to edit anything at all.

As for slowdowns in segment confirmation (with TM timeout errors), it happened to me more than once when working with a "big" team of colleagues on a project, with "big" TMs (several hundred MBs each), or when the TMs started having issues of their own and required "repairing" on the client's side.

Post title: Contact with memoQ server?

To verify that your computer can indeed contact the customer's memoQ Server, try pinging the server address.

Open Windows' Start menu and use the little field in which you can run a program. Type cmd and press Enter. This opens am MS/DOS command line window. Use the command ping memoQ-Server-name (example: ping memoq.translationagency.com and press Enter. This server name is the same you enter in memoQ when you log in in order to check out a project.

You should see a list of contact instances, with a certain delay in milliseconds. If you see "timeout" messages, it means that your computer cannot contact the memoQ server. The reasons could be diverse, but if you can browse any other website normally, it should not be a matter of a faulty DNS record. Your customer should check that their server is running, and should also ensure that their domain name is accessible.

If your customer has a website, you can try to see whether their website works. If it does, it must be a problem with the memoQ server alone. If the website does not work either, their DNS address could be faulty somewhere along the line. Report that to them and let them talk to their ISP to have it checked/fixed.

I hope this helps a little bit!

I also sometimes have the export options greyed out when working in the translation tab (only Export active document as plain text is not greyed out then) . What I found, though, was that I can then still access and use the other export options by going to the Project home tab, chosing Translations, and then right-clicking on the file I want to export.

It was the client server, after all. I will check with Tomás' method next time this happens - a very valuable advice that might save me hours of frustrations next time...

Hello, with MemoQ 2015 Can I export my translation before is finished (and how)? Or this will cause some issues once I go back on the memoQ file to continue with the translation?

Post title: online projects

When working with online projects, the working and master tm can be synchronized offline.

Online projects can be set up so that when you check out an online project, memoQ creates an offline copy of the server TM automatically.

If not, just go to the translation memories section of the project, right-click each TM of the project and select Synchronize offline. It may take some time depending on the size of the TM.

When you synchronize files, you will also synchronize TMs.

In this way, you can work with your memoQ project even though the memoQ server is offline.

I'm about to start a new project using MemoQ and was wondering where I might find resources to help me learn how to use this software. Is the best place to start with the link below?

[url removed]

Also, how long do you think it might take me to understand everything as a first-time user? I have some CAT experience but not a lot.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions you may have!

In my opinion, MQ is easier to use (at least the basic tasks) than other tools (such as Studio, for instance).

If you're working on a project prepared by a client/agency (on their server), you basically will only have to translate without worrying about anything else (more or less), otherwise, it might be a bit more challenging to set up a project yourself.

I believe this could be useful too: [url removed]

When you click Export, you will get an option to leave empty segments blank, or to export the source for blank segments. Select the one you want.
Confirmed and translated but unconfirmed/draft segments will be exported normally with whatever is in them.
Exporting an unfinished file doesn't affect the working/bilingual file in any way - they are completely separate files.

Hello,

The company I'm working for gave me the MemoQ license which I've successfully installed around 4 months ago. Now I've tried to create a new project and associate it to the TM I use for the projects related to this company, as usual, but this time it doesn't let me! It appears a pop up message saying that I'm using 'MemoQ in 4free mode and memoQ can only open projects with exactly one document and the corresponding translation memory'.

Do somebody know why all of a sudden says I'm working in free mode? I've always been able to associate the projects with the corresponding TM and I also need it as the project is full of repetitions.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi there,
I experienced that same problem before and had to uninstall MemoQ first then reinstall it (you need to log in using the ELM license from your client). The problem should be solved after reinstallation.
