Post title: Mostly agree

1. This sounds like a problem with a specific server (if it only happens with one server but not others) or the network. Have you tried to switch off automatic synchronising?

2. Agree. Annoying. I have mentioned it in a support ticket to MemoQ (the company is no longer called Kilgray). It's enough to move the cursor around in the same segment, though.

4. I always run the spellchecker natively in Word. Not only is it faster, it also finds more errors.

But my impression of the company is that they don't care much about what the translators need, so let's keep dreaming. Fixing bugs doesn't attract as much public attention as writing fancy reports about the future of translation and producing voice recognition functions, which only iPhone users can use, so we keep working in bug-ridden MemoQ software every day.

Example: on 24 December, I reported that Compare versions (v. 8.5 and higher) more or less randomly inserts and deletes spaces in the text and doesn't display them correctly, so when you're done in Compare versions, you need to clean up the entire text for double spaces and words that have been joined. On the same day, they confirmed that they could reproduce the problem. Since then, I have asked twice if they could give priority to solving this bug due to the serious problems it causes in client texts. They just ignore me. They don't give a damn. It's not their work that is destroyed by their bugs.

There is another bug that causes the cursor to disappear after copy and paste (v. 8.x). They have known about it for months, but it hasn't been fixed.

These are just examples. I have a long list of reported bugs in their support system. The reports are just sitting around for months. It's a completely unacceptable way of dealing with bugs, but what can we do? Trados is even worse.

2. Otherwise you can use more tricky approach. Find MemoQ system directory and your old project in it (name of subdirectory with projects depends on MemoQ version and can be 'Projects', "My Memoq projects', etc.). You need the file DocumentData.sdf, it contains your translation. Copy it to safe place. Create in new MemoQ new project for this job. Exit MemoQ and replace DocumentData.sdf file in the new project directory with the old version of this file (copied from your previous project). Start MemoQ (keep your fingers crossed).

I can not see all my projects in the project home after my computer breakdown suddenly, so I try the second method to fix it.
After I put the DocumentData.sdf in the right place, there appears the project's progress. But I still fail to open each single file in that project, showed 'General Error', do you know what should I do to fix this problem? (When the first time I saw I can not open each previous project, I thought that would be the problem of the software, so I download the new version of MemoQ. Probably different version of software would cause the 'General Error'?)

Dear colleagues,

Do MT results show on merged segments in your project? I have just tried it, and they don't. I can't even pretranslate them manually with DeepL - it says that there's been an error upon translation of several segments.

Hi all,

so I wanted to change the target language of my project, because the spellcheck was checking in the wrong language (US English instead of UK). I did this by adding the other language, and removing the original one.

Upon this, the progress of all my documents has gone down to 0, and all my translation is gone!!! Has anyone encountered this before? Is there any way to find/retrieve the translations? There was no warning about this anywhere.

Thank you so much for any input!

If you have a TM for US English and another for UK English (if you don't, it is a good idea), then start another project and put the UK TM as first but also use the US English TM. Run pre-translate and all the text from the US English TM should populate the segments. You can just go through, either before or after, to check UK spelling and style.

I can't import files in .txlf format

Hi guys,

I received a project form my client in ".txlf" format and was told that to get the new files to work, I need to add "*.txlf;" to the beginning of the list of wildcard file extension types I have under "XLIFF" in my File Settings/Project Template.

Now, I even cannot import the files with .txlf extension into Memoq, as Memoq cannot see those files although there in my folder.

I tried adding it in "Filter configurations" but it doesn't work, probably because there isn't an XLIFF filter therein.

How to do it?

Looking forward,

1. Which version of MemoQ are you using?
2. Are you sure the client's instructions are for setting up a filter in MemoQ?

(I'm not a regular MemoQ user, but I have MemoQ installed and I tried some googling to get to the bottom of this, but I'm as baffled as you are. One can add a new XLIFF filter for TXLF files by clicking the "Resources" button at the very top left of MemoQ (the icon looks like a file-o-fax), and then selecting "Filter configurations" and then "Create New", but I'm stumped because there's nowhere where you can tell MemoQ to use the file extension ".txlf" for that filter.)

I have just checked and it works fine in memoQ 8.7.6.

The procedure is as follows:

New Project → Import with options → Select "All files" in the drop-down menu of the File Explorer → Select a txlf file to import → Click "Open"→ Select XLIFF filter from the drop-down menu → Click OK → Click Finish.

The file gets imported with all the tags displayed properly.

Thanks you guys,

Andriy,

I use 2014 R2 version.

But there is no txlf file available in the drop down menu. My Memoq doesn’t recognize this format and unable to see the txlf files for some reason.

Any further idea?

Of course there isn't. However, a txlf file is just an xliff file, the fact that can be proved by opening this kind of file with a text editor. You will see the following in the header: ?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"? xliff version="1.2" xmlns="urn:oasis:names:tc:xliff:document:1.2" xmlns:gs4tr=" "

So, use "Import with options", select "All files" in the drop-down menu of the file explorer (not "All supported files") so you can see all the files available in the file explorer window, select and open your txlf file and select XLIFF filter in the drop-down menu of the filters and click OK and then Finish.

'unexpected token ' error during *.sdlppx import

Topic: 'unexpected token ' error during *.sdlppx import
Poster: Peter Zauner

All,

I am using memoQ 7.8.4.
On a recent job, a customer sent me a *.sdlppx file, which I imported using the "Import Package" function. The customer had packaged two *.docx files and a TM.
However, while one of the two *.docx files imported correctly, the other one failed to import. The error message read: '10' is an unexpected token, The expected token is "" or "". Line 1, position 10.
At the time, I didn’t understand what this meant and my customer's project manager didn't know what to do either. As a result, after translating the one *.docx file that imported correctly, I was not able to export a *.sdlrpx package. Instead, the 'Export (stored path)' and 'Export Dialog' options both created a *.docx file.

I have since found this thread ( ) and have concluded that the 'unexpected token ' error comes from SDL and should have been resolved in the source *.docx file before creating the *.sdlppx. Is this correct?

I probably should have never accepted the job until the PM had fixed this error.

A related question is:
When I used the 'Export Bilingual - option memoQ XLIFF [Plain XLIFF for other tools]' option, MemoQ created a *. mqxliff file, that the PM could not open.
Why is a supposedly 'plain XLIFF for other tools', named *. mqxliff? Could to be converted to a truly 'plain' XLIFF that the PM can open in SDL?

Any comments are highly welcome.

Thank you,

Peter

When using 'Export Bilingual - option memoQ XLIFF' save your file with extension .xlf instead of *. mqxliff or change the file extension after the export. Then Studio will be able to open that file.

I have been using MemoQ with different servers and the problem is always the same: It is extremely slow and laggy, to the point that I am considering dropping my clients who require this tool. I am using the latest version (8.6.6.) and I have an Internet speed of over 100 Mpbs.

Here are screenshots of some of the annoying messages I receive:

Clouding TMs?

Is there a way to cloud MemoQ TMs at all, as with SDL Trados? MemoQ seems to only allow the use of TMs that are located in its native directory. This is really bad in case your PC decides to give you a critical failure mid-project. Yes, I know I can establish a regular TM copying regime, but who has enough time, patience and brain memory for that.

I've seen some Kilgray offerings for cloud servers, but they are apparently for corporate users and crazy-expensive.

TMS implementation

I work for an association that currently outsources all translation to a couple different translation agencies. Given that I’m a certified translator and have seen firsthand the many benefits of the different TMS, I made a recommendation to bring either SDL Trados or memoQ in-house.

It seems that we are going to get memoQ to start managing all of our translation processes; however, no one here knows much about translation software, let alone the project management aspect of translation software. I’m trying to make my case to have upper management create a new position to manage it, given that the goal is to have the whole organization make use of it.

Does anyone have an idea how long it will take to:
1- Install the software in 2 environments (test and production)
2- PM training
3- Train people to actually use the software
4- Combine the current TMs (from the different translation agencies)

I just need a guestimate to prove that this project requires A LOT of time and attention in order to implement it well (because this was not in my job description :-) )

Any suggestions?
