Post title: An option in the results pane

I think what is probably happening is that the translator used segments from the TM and has the added space option enabled in the translation results pane. When you right-click the translation results pane, you can see the option there.

As for hidden characters, it is always something to have enabled whenever you work in professional translation. It will save you a lot of trouble. Please encourage your translator to enable it by right-clicking the translation grid, choosing Customize Appearance and then enabling Show non-printing characters.

I hope this helps!

How should I remedy the internal application error in MemoQ?:

The requested task could not be completed or an operation failed, but you can safely continue your
work.
Internal application error.

It happens now and then during translation in the editor window. Can be any key I press. Usually it pops up on each key stroke after the first pop-up, for about 4-5 keystrokes. Then I can type as normal again. Until a few minutes later, when the same pattern occurs.

Yesterday, I installed the latest version of MemoQ, version 9.2, but at first I had no problems like this. Only after several hours.

I have Windows 7 Home Premium.

Doesn't help if I restart MemoQ either.

How can I get MemoQ to tell me when I've translated a certain number of words in a very large document, or let me know how many words I've translated in the day?

I don't know if there's a way to get memoQ to count the number of words you translate in a day, but there definitely is a workaround. Here's what I do when I have a large job.

Let's I'm working on a 60,000-word document that's due in 30 working days.

60,000÷30 = 2000

That's the number of words I need to translate every working day in order to finish on time. (In practice, of course, I would allow time for proofreading, but I'm keeping this simple.)

2000÷60,000 = 0.033 X 100 = 3.3%

That's the percentage of the document I need to translate every day in order to meet the deadline.

At the beginning of each workday, I hover my mouse pointer over the project name on the memoQ dashboard. The green bar in the Progress column changes to reflect what percentage of the document I have already translated, in whole percentage points. Let's say that today I have translated 46% of the document. Since memoQ rounds off the number, I actually try to reach 4% each day. I know that I need to have translated at least 50% by the end of the day.

You can run statistics at the end of each day.
This will give a weighted count of what remains (and subtracting from the previous day - the delta)

Hey everyone, I just wanted to add that I got this exact same callstack after upgrading to the most recent memoQ version (9.2).
What I didn't notice was that my bitdefender was blocking memoQ from accessing the My Documents folder, in which the "My memoQ projects" folder is stored.
Long story short - don't forget to unblock memoQ in your firewall/security programs.

This will create a table showing how many segments, words, characters have been translated and their percentages.

On a long job I will run a report every hour or two, which shows whether I am maintaining the pace or getting distracted.

PSA for those using MemoQ with Dragon NaturallySpeaking

I just wanted to issue a PSA for anyone who might be affected. It turns out that MemoQ 9.2.5 (and maybe earlier versions of 9.x) fixed a problem I was having with Dragon NaturallySpeaking (DNS) eventually becoming so slow as to be unusable. In MemoQ 8.x, it seemed that having a DNS profile active and then typing text manually into segments in MemoQ would, after several such instances, cause Dragon's performance to dramatically slow and eventually bring the program to a halt, requiring DNS to be shut down and restarted to regain functionality.

I am extremely happy that this issue appears to be fixed — thank you, thank you to whoever at MemoQ was responsible!

I've had that problem as well, especially on longer translations. I have found, however, that as long as I avoid touching the keyboard, Dragon keeps on working. Of course, that means I need either to spell out words not in Dragon's vocabulary or open the Dictation box and type there. Naturally, that slows me down.

It's great that Nuance has solved the problem. That might even make it worthwhile to upgrade to the latest release.

Export aligned file into translation view

Hi all, I've just started using MemoQ so apologies if this is a silly question. I've aligned a file using LiveDocs, confirmed all the links and exported the results to a TM I need for use outside MemoQ. What I'd like to do now is open this aligned document in the regular 'translations' pane, as though it were a finished translation document with the segments all correctly linked. I've had a look through various help topics but I can't seem to find anything, though it feels intuitively like it should be a simple process.

The reason I want to do this is so I can quickly add terms to a term base from the 'translations' pane and use the 'update from active segment' functionality to add term context. This doesn't seem to be possible from the LiveDocs alignment screen, though if there's a way to activate it, that would also be a solution to my problem.

I'm running MemoQ 9.0.

Thanks!

Hello!

When importing an Excel file for translation into MemoQ (9.2), is it possible to split segments so that one segment = one full Excel cell (several sentences), as opposed to one segment = one sentence?

Thanks!

Does anyone else have problems with the Translations Results pane only showing termbase synonyms (called 'duplicates' for some reason) sporadically? Could the size of the termbase be a problem? (I'm using version 9.2 and the termbase has 6332 entries.)

Bad question. You haven't specified separator in cells. If line break — xlsx filter settings checkbox «Import linebreaks as inline tags» (and RTFM)
